The HTC boiler feed pump minimum flow control valve is a cavitation-preventing multi-stage throttling control valve, also known as a high-differential pressure control valve. It is a control valve with a novel structure, mainly used in the feed water system of large generator sets, and serves as an important device to prevent cavitation of the boiler feed pump.

 

The HTC minimum flow control valve has the following advantages:
  1. The fluid is depressurized step by step, and its direction changes continuously, which increases the flow resistance and prevents cavitation when the pressure difference of the liquid flowing inside the valve reaches 24MPa.
  2. The valve core features 4-stage throttling, and a throttling element is arranged on the lower side of the valve seat sealing surface to improve the fluid flow state, with the fluid velocity being around 30m/s.
  3. The throttling surface is separated from the sealing surface. The surfaces of the valve core, valve core sleeve, valve core rod and throttling element are hardened to a hardness of approximately HRC70, ensuring tight closure and a long service life.
  4. The surface of the valve core is provided with large notches, so even if the fluid contains solid particles such as 2-3mm welding slag, the valve core will not get stuck and can move flexibly.

Function of the Minimum Flow Control Valve in the Feed Water System:

 

When a feed water pump is started but its outlet valve is not yet opened, or when the external load is significantly reduced (unit operating at low load), the feed water flow is very small or even zero. At this time, only a small amount of water or no water at all passes through the pump. The frictional heat generated by the impeller cannot be carried away by the feed water, causing the temperature inside the pump to rise. When the temperature inside the pump exceeds the saturation temperature corresponding to the pressure at which the pump operates, the feed water will vaporize and cause cavitation. To prevent this phenomenon, it is necessary to open this minimum flow control valve when the feed water flow of the feed water pump decreases to a certain extent, allowing part of the feed water to return to the deaerator. In this way, sufficient water flows through the pump to prevent the temperature from rising and causing vaporization of the feed water pump. This minimum flow is generally 25% to 30% of the rated flow of the feed water pump.

 

  • A 125MW unit is equipped with two 100% capacity electric feed water pumps, one in operation and one as a standby.
  • A 200MW unit is configured with three 50% capacity electric feed water pumps, two in operation and one as a standby.
  • A 300MW unit is equipped with two 50% capacity pneumatic pumps for normal operation, and one electric feed water pump with a capacity not exceeding 50% as a standby, with the model DG-370-240.

 

Installation method
Install vertically. There are two ways for the relative position of the inlet pipe and the outlet pipe, as shown in the figure below.
